Quick Tip: Why You Should Limit the Use of Virtual Memory with an SSD Drive

When your computer runs out of available random access memory (RAM), the OS turns to virtual memory (via pagefile.sys), where it uses your computer’s hard drive as RAM.

This is a potential issue because solid-state drives (SSD) have limited write cycles, and virtual memory is a disk-write intensive process.

As an alternative, consider at least doubling your installed RAM. Since your computer only turns to virtual memory when you run low on RAM, you can limit the use of virtual memory by adding RAM.
